Jaloux

Jaloux is a nightclub based in the heart of Liverpool; it is one of the most popular venues in the city and is well known for its bright colours, neon lights and quirky attractions that make it impossible to not take pictures.

The owners wanted to build a website that was bright, fun and demonstrated all the ‘selfie’ opportunities within the nightclub. The main focus of the site was to allow the user to book a night out with the ‘Design My Night’ feature.

This was a small budget project with a 4 week turnaround, so there was not an opportunity to complete extensive research.

What Did I Do?
Web Design and Branding

Insight
I looked at some competitor analysis and attempted to understand what other businesses in the area did with their branding and digital presence.

  • Pastel Colours – A lot of venues made use of neon lighting and light colours to create opportunities for selfies and photographs in the clubs, this in return helped their social media presence.
  • Sassiness – Most clubs wanted to look exclusive and made a big thing about needing to book, so adding a booking option was something that needed to stand out.
  • Target Audience – The target audience was women between the ages of 18-25. The venue had to look fun and vibrant on the website and the mobile version of the site needed to be easy to use due to way that customers would interact with the website.

Solution

  • Basic Design System – I proceeded to create a basic design system to make it easier to understand what I would implementing into the website. From there I established the colours and fonts that I intended to use on the website.
  • High Fidelity Mockup – Due to time constraints I had to establish the sitemap quickly and create a hi fidelity mock up that was sent to client for approval. As I did not have any content besides the photos of the night club this was always changing.

Overview
I completed the website in the four week turnaround on budget. It offered a bright, fun platform that integrated the client’s preferred booking platform, allowing people to book to visit the venue on the website easily.

Retrospect

  • Lack of content – It would have been better if we had better content for the project. This would have allowed me to design the high fidelity mockup more easily. Because the content kept changing I had to retrospectively design certain elements which slowed the site launch.
